Broad Street Head Office - House Purchase Department
The large office that occupied the west side of the Ground Floor housed
the House Purchase Department. At the far end of the office (behind the filing cabinets, and accessed by the door on the left) is
the screened area used by the Controller (later called Superintendent) of the department.
Emergency lighting was supplied by the two
small wall lamps; one of the building's syncronised clocks is on the window wall; the unit in the top-left corner of the photograph
is part of a bell calling system.
The two devices on top of the cupboards, one each side of a window, are holders for paper strips
that indexed files by mortgagors' names and property addresses
