Broad Street Head Office - Northeast Stairs: Ground Floor
Ascent of the staircase at the northeast corner of the building provided
access to the Accounts Department (referred to by the sign as the 'Accountancy Department'), while descent led to the Stationery Department
and the Safe Deposit. The building's telephone exchange was on the left.
The door (numbered 29) between the exchange and the stairs
was to a room marked on the building's original plans as 'Controller 2'. On the same plans, the room to the right of the stairs was
labelled 'Inspectors' but was used in later years for the Clearing Department.
