EXCAVATOR
Include for grubbing up all walls foundations, pavings and beds, drains, manholes, wells or other parts of previous structures that may be met with and clearing away.
 
Allow for keeping all foundations clear of water by pumping, baling, draining or any other means as may be directed or required.
 
Cut all necessary grips channels etc, provide all temporary shoots and do all pumping necessary for draining accumulated water from the site and from around foundations.
 
Allow for ramming and well consolidating  bottom of excavations and for forming to levels, slopes or falls as required.
 
The items of excavation and filling are in each case the measurements of the space concerned and not the amount of material to be moved.
 
The Contractor must ascertain for himself the nature of the ground and subsoil and determine for himself whether rock, water running sand or other troublesome material will be encountered, as no claim will be allowed arising from any neglect or failure to do this or for any difficulties encountered.
 
A trial hole has been excavated and the Contractor is advised to inspect it. The trial hole has been provided solely for the Contractor's convenience and the provision of this trial hole is not to be regarded as in any way relieving the Contractor of his responsibilities as described in the preceeding clause.
 
The Strata through which the trial hole has been excavated are as follows:

NB: This must not be assumed to be representative of the whole site.

Prices are to include for quarrying, drilling or any other method of getting out excavation and for making good any damage to persons or property to whomsoever belonging.

Blasting will not be allowed on the site.

 

Formation level is taken as underside of basement floor and is about 9' 0" below Broad Street and about 3' 0" above the Car Park.

 

The excavation down to formation level is described as to lower and level site and ranges from 7' 0" to 1' 0" deep.

 

All foundation basement and trench excavation is measured from formation level and all depths stated are below formation level unless otherwise described.

 

The filling to the forecourt cannot be completed until the front wall of the building is built and the price must include for working the two in conjunction or for twice moving the filling.

 

Fill in to existing cellars in forecourt with clean selected hard spoil from the excavations (no bricks, bats or other lump filling will be allowed) in layers not exceeding 6" thick spread level, well ram and consolidate to form foundation for future roadway all to the satisfaction of the City Surveyor.

 

Fill in with dry approved hardcore well packed and rolled to raise levels.

 

Fill in and well ram solid trench where existing 9" wall on property of Masonic Temple is removed.

 

Drill test holes in rock:

75 - 10' 0" deep

  6 - 12' 0" deep

  6 - 15' 0" deep

  6 - 20' 0" deep
