All the timber to be thoroughly seasoned, free from sap, shakes, large, loose or dead knots, waney edges and all other defects and cut die square.
The timber for Carpenter's work, unless otherwise described, to be approved selected yellow deal, clean and bright and for extra large scantlings Pitch Pine, carefully selected and free from knots.
The timber for Joiner's work, unless otherwise described to be approved selected yellow deal, free from all imperfections and thoroughly dry.
The Whitewood for Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be selected, dry, well seasoned American.
The Oak for Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be selected, dry, well seasoned Austrian.
The Teak for Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be selected, dry, well seasoned Moulmein.
The Mahogany for Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be selected, dry, well seasoned Honduras.
The Walnut for Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be selected, dry, well seasoned Ancona.
The whole of the Carpenter's and Joiner's work to be framed and put together in the best and most workmanlike manner, all work exposed to be wrot and the prices to include for all bolts, spikes, nails, glue, screws and oak pegs.
The timbers throughout are to hold the full specified sizes, 1/16 of an inch and no more being allowed for each wrot face.
The Joiner's work to be framed as soon as possible after the Contract is signed and is to be kept in a dry place under cover and arranged so that a current of air can freely circulate around it, but must not be wedged up until required for fixing, as all shrinkage will have to be made good at the Contractor's expense.
Solid panels where given as plywood are in all cases to be laminated boards of the thickness given, faced up with ply each side to match general door material stated. Birch for deal doors and framings whitewood next whitewood approved highly figured Mahogany next Mahogany. Teak next teak and selected Nona ut next walnut.
The Carpenter's and Joiner's work generally, moldings etc., to be worked to ½" and full size details which will be supplied and no work must be commenced until such drawings are received. All to be fixed in an approved manner and all external joints to be put together in thick white lead and all hardwoods to be secretly fixed.
All Joinery before being wedged up is to be inspected and approved by the Architect.
All doors and framings described as 1¾" or over to be double tenoned and also lock rails to doors both ends and all glued joints to be cross tongued.
All wrot work to be finished by hand and moldings cleaned up with glass paper until all tool marks are removed and all arrises are to be slightly rounded.
The general finish throughout is to be suitable for polishing.
All glazing beads are to be fixed with brass screws and cups.
Heads of screws, bolts, etc., in hardwood to be sunk and neatly pelleted.
The Contractor is to provide and fix in their correct positions in the building full size models of the various built up joinery work and to allow for altering as may be required to meet the Architects' approval before putting the bulk of the work in hand.
No wood floors to be laid until windows are glazed.
Provide all rods, molds, templates, patterns, profiles, screeds, rules, etc., for the various trades.
Work to slab partitions to be fixed with long screws driven from the opposite side.
CENTERINGS ETC.
All centering, boxing, shuttering etc., hereinafter described is use and waste only and is measured whenever required, no deduction has been made for reuse and the prices are to include all angles, joints, etc.
Include with each item for proper supports, brackets, strainers, stiffeners, wedges, etc., and for easing, striking and removing when it is ascertained that the concrete etc., has set sufficiently and making good any damage resulting.
All surfaces intended to receive concrete to be close jointed and finished to regular and true surfaces in order that when removed the concrete may present a true face.
The forms for beams and joists to be arranged in such a manner that the timbers supporting the floor slabs and the sides of beams may be removed without disturbing the bottom piece and the posts and these latter must always be the last to be taken down.
Bearers to carry the boards for floor slabs may be fixed to the sides of the beam boxes on wooden fillets.
Core boxes are to be so placed as to ensure that positions of holes are dead accurate and prices must include for withdrawing and making good.
Immediately after concreting is commenced, the forms are to be tuned up for changes due to atmosphere or other influences, the insides to be thoroughly cleaned out and in warm weather to be well wetted.
All surfaces coming in contact with concrete to be prepared with limewhite or grease paint.
All forms to be so designed that upon removal no damage to concrete results.
No deduction in boxing, shuttering etc., for beams, haunching etc., has been made at crossings and the prices throughout are to include for the necessary intersections.
The following to Concrete Walls and Roofs of Safe Deposits and Strong Room Erected after Specialists Reinforcement is fixed and to include all angles and joints. Alternatively may be executed in any well tried system of special shuttering or centreing which may be approved by the Architect.
