General Purposes Sub-Committee: October 8th 1923
The following Report of the General Manager was submitted:
Harborne Branch Premises.
The accommodation which will be available to the tenant of this Branch has been inspected by Mr Wilde, and he is of opinion that the fair rent to be charged would be £40 per annum, tenant paying rates.
I should be glad if the Committee would confirm these rentals, in order that the Chairman and myself may then decide to whom the premises shall be let.
412 RESOLVED:- That the suggestion of Mr Wilde with reference to the rental of living accommodation at the Harborne branch be approved.
The General Manager submitted letters from Mr W E Jackson, one of the Branch Managers, asking:
1. For permission to have affixed to the door leading to his apartments a notice to the effect that his Wife was an Agent for a firm of corset makers;
2. That the Committee should consent to his Wife purchasing and carrying on the business of a dressmaker in Hagley Road.
The General Manager had told Mr Jackson that after conferring with the Chairman of the General Committee he could not see his way to grant the request contained in the first application, and with regard to the second, the matter would have to be decided by the Committee. Mr Jackson thereupon said that if could have the opportunity of becoming the tenant at Harborne he would prefer to take that course, rather than his Wife should take up any business arrangement, and that in this case the application No 2 could be withdrawn.
424 RESOLVED:- That the application of Mr Jackson to become tenant of the premises at Harborne, as soon as they are altered, be agreed to.

It is felt that Bartley Green and California people could be adequately dealt with at the Harborne Branch; and it is accordingly recommended that the special attendance at Bartley Green be discontinued and arrangements made to deal with the Accounts at the Harborne Branch.
1995 RESOLVED:- That the General Manager be instructed to discontinue the

Mr J S Horrex, Estate Agent, enquires whether the Bank would be interested in a site which the Calthorpe Estates are developing at the corner of Croftdown Road and Balden Road, Harborne.
Having regard to the fact that we have a daily Branch in Harborne and to the uncertainty of development on the Balden Road and Quinton side, I am of opinion that we should wait before developing branch Bank activities in this direction. In any case, I do not consider the site offered to be the best for our purpose.
