Bank Committee: March 19th 1928

On Minute No 2979 (King's Heath premises) the City Surveyor attended the Committee and intimated that, with reference to the existing advertisement arrangements with the Kingsway Cinema, it is intended to demolish the present party wall adjoining the bank premises, and to erect a boarding adjacent to the gable end of the wall of No 75 High Street. The Kingsway Cinema proprietors were agreeable to this course providing that the arrangement holds good until the premises No 75 High Street are demolished and the buildings set back to the improvement line prescribed in connection with the widening of High Street, and on the understanding that compensation be paid to them by the Corporation based on the proportion that the period unexpired bears to the 20 years referred to.

The City Surveyor stated that the Public Works Committee would know the amount of the compensation when the time arrived and if it could not be mutually agreed upon the matter would be submitted to arbitration. The City Surveyor also expressed his willingness to advise the Public Works Committee to take over the land in front of the new Bank at a price to be agreed upon between the Bank and the Public Works Committee.

3014   RESOLVED:- That, subject to the approval of the Public Works and Town Planning Committee, the proposed arrangements above indicated with regard to the King's Heath premises and the adjoining land be approved and the Town Clerk be instructed to enter into any necessary Agreement with the Kingsway Cinema Proprietors accordingly, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto.

Bank Committee: April 16th 1928

On Minutes Nos 2979 and 3014 (King's Heath premises) the General Manager called attention to the question of the valuation of a forecourt in front of the new premises at King's Heath, which it is proposed should be taken over by the Public Works Committee, and state that Mr Wilde had estimated the area at 178 square yards, and considered that a fair price for the land would be 30/- per square yard.

3060   RESOLVED:- That the Public Works Committee be informed that this Committee are advised that a fair value for the land in front of the new Bank premises at King's Heath is 30/- per square yard, and that they be asked to agree to the transfer at such rate; also that, in the event of a valuation not being agreed, the matter be referred to the Lord Mayor for settlement in accordance with General Instruction to Committees No 31.

Bank Committee: May 21st 1928

On Minutes Nos 2979/3014/3060 (Transfer of land at Kings Heath to Public Works & Town Planning Committee and arrangements with Kingsway Cinema Co Ltd) the following Minute was received from the Public Works & Town Planning Committee:

25401. RESOLVED:- That subject to the approval of the City Council the transfer from the Bank Committee of land required for the widening of High Street, Kings Heath, on the terms set out in the report of the Town Planning Sub-Committee be approved, and further, that the proposed arrangements with the Kingsway Cinema Company relating to the advertisement hoarding be agreed to and the Town Clerk instructed to prepare and seal the requisite documents.

Future widening of High Street, King's Heath.

Land in front of Municipal Bank.

The Municipal Bank Committee have recently erected new premises at the rear of the existing bank in High Street, King's Heath, which is to be demolished.

They suggest that your Committee should now take over the land, which has an area of 154 sq. yds. for road widening, the value of which they are advised by their professional valuer is 30/- per sq. yd. equal to a sum of £231, which the District Valuer considers reasonable.

The cost of regulating the surface and laying limestone tar paving to give adequate access to the bank would be about £50.]

Bank Committee: July 16th 1928

On Minutes Nos 2979 and 3014 - the Town Clerk presented the following report as to the completion of the Agreement with the Kingsway Cinema Ltd:

June 23rd 1928

Bank Premises - King's Heath.

I have to report that I have completed the necessary agreement with the Kingsway Cinema (King's Heath) Ltd regarding their advertising rights on the gable wall of the adjacent premises.

In view of the arrangement between your Committee and the Public Works Committee any future question arising in this connection will be dealt with by the latter Committee.
