Bearwood Branch:
November 3rd 1919 - November 11th 1922
Bearwood was opened on Monday, November 3rd 1919, and was worked on alternate days with Harborne branch - the hours
of opening on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are not known. Bearwood was designated as an 'Evening Branch' from May 1st 1920 and
was then open from 6pm to 7:30pm on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Daily opening was adopted on September 1st 1921. The branch's
first Personal Ledger covered these periods, plus the early days of operation as a Daily Branch up until November 11th 1922 when the
2,000th account was opened.
On the first day of opening (Monday, November 3rd 1919), 14 accounts were opened with a total amount deposited of £71. 8s. 0d.
Each
of the account columns has been annotated 'N' - presumably to indicate a New account (rather than an account transferred from another
branch) and to assist with compiling statistical reports to Head Office.
The column headings have little space for the name of
the depositor, but the depositor's address has been also entered - possibly at a later date after the account was opened.
The second day of opening (Wednesday, November 5th 1919), only two accounts were opened - amount deposited: £5. 10s.
0d.
Accounts opened on Friday, November 7th 1919 included three accounts transferred from Head Office. The total balances transferred
amounted to £288. 4s. 5d.
Account number 22 appears to be a transfer from Harborne branch, account number E38 being noted instead of 'N' for a new account.
Including
a transfer from Head Office, new balances totalled £228. 2s. 5d. on November 10th.
