The General Manager presented the following report as to the purchase of properties No 122, Bordesley Green and No 1, Bordesley Green Road:
No 122 Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road
This freehold property, consisting of No 122 Bordesley Green, a dwellinghouse with entrance, sitting room, living room and pantry, and on the first floor three bedrooms, and No 1 Bordesley Green Road, a retail shop of irregular shape, was placed on sale to the Bank recently at the sum of £1,800.
The property has a total frontage to Bordesley Green and Bordesley Green Road of 71' 9", and occupies a prominent position.
Mr Wilde was instructed to furnish a report upon the property, with his valuation. He has done so, and places the value at £1,500.
The Chairman (Councillor Appleby), with Councillors Gelling and Stephens, visited the site on Tuesday last, and came to the conclusion that it would be desirable to obtain the property if it could be purchased for a reasonable figure, and Mr Wilde was accordingly instructed to do the best he could, with power to go up to £1,800 if absolutely necessary. Mr Wilde has agreed to purchase at the sum of £1,560, and the Town Clerk had been requested to assist him in the preparation of a contract pending the report to this Committee.
620 RESOLVED:- That the action taken in the foregoing report be confirmed, and that the General Committee be recommended to instruct the Town Clerk to complete the purchase of the property at Bordesley Green referred to, at the sum of £1,560, subject to the approval of the City Council being obtained.
Bank Committee: December 15th 1924
1931 The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:
Premises at Bordesley Green.
Your Sub-Committee report that an opportunity recently arose of acquiring freehold property at Bordesley Green, situate at No 122 Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road, for the purposes of the Bank.
No 122, Bordesley Green, comprises a dwellinghouse with sitting room, living room and a pantry and three bedrooms on the first floor, and No 1 Bordesley Green Road consists of a retail shop of irregular shape. The property has a total frontage to Bordesley Green and Bordesley Green Road of 71 feet 9 inches and occupies a prominent corner site in a busy market area. Mr Frank Wilde, who valued the property at £1,500 was authorised to negotiate the purchase and has been successful in doing so at the figure of £1,560.
It subsequently transpired that the owner of the above property was prepared to dispose of adjacent freehold property, No 120 Bordesley Green (consisting of a shop and dwellinghouse) with vacant possession, retaining certain premises at rear including slaughterhouse and stabling, for his own use. Mr Frank Wilde was instructed to negotiate for the property and his Report states that in making a detailed survey of No 122 Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road he discovered that the boundaries were very much involved and that portions of Nos 120 and 122 intersected, and it was apparent that complications would be avoided if No 120 could be also acquired. The latter property (excluding the slaughterhouse, stabling, yard and gateway) was valued by Mr Wilde at £1,100 and the owner asked for £1,400 in respect thereof. After consideration Mr Wilde was authorised to go to the extent of £1,200 if necessary to secure this additional property and his further report is now awaited.
It would be of considerable advantage to the Bank if the additional purchase could be arranged as a road widening scheme of some magnitude is scheduled for this area, which would ultimately take in the major portion of No 122 Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road, and the Committee, when the widening takes place, would be in a position, with the additional property at their disposal, to meet the requirements of the Bank.
Your Sub-Committee recommend that the Town Clerk be instructed to complete the purchase of No 122 Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road at the sum of £1,560, subject to the approval of the City Council being obtained and to enter into any necessary documents, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto; also that the action taken in instructing Mr F Wilde to negotiate for the purchase of property at No 120 Bordesley Green, for an amount up to £1,200 be confirmed.
On consideration of the paragraph in the report relating to premises at Bordesley Green, the Committee were informed that Mr Frank Wilde had been successful in arranging for the purchase of No 120, Bordesley Green, at the sum of £1,200.
1936 RESOLVED:- That the action taken in regard to the properties at Bordesley Green, as indicated in the foregoing report, be confirmed, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to complete the purchase of the freehold properties Nos 120 and 122, Bordesley Green and No 1 Bordesley Green Road at the sum of £2,760, subject to the approval of the City Council being obtained, and to enter into any necessary agreements, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto.
1948 RESOLVED:- That the Chairman be authorised to prepare and present to the next meeting of the City Council a suitable report with reference to the purchase of properties at Bordesley Green.
Report to the City Council: January 6th 1925

758 RESOLVED:- That the General Manager be instructed to ascertain the procedure of the Public Works Department with regard to such matters.
The Sub-Committee were informed that Mr E M Squire, the contractor for the Bordesley Green alterations, had pointed out that the sum of £450, remained due to him in respect of the contract carried out by him at Alum Rock Road and asked for this amount to be held on behalf of the Bank as part security for the due fulfilment of the contract at Bordesley Green in lieu of making a deposit or obtaining sureties.
759 RESOLVED:- That the request of Mr E M Squire be complied with.
Bank Committee: June 15th 1925
2104 On Minute No 2090 (alterations - Bordesley Green) the General Manager reported that he had been notified that a Town Planning Sub-Committee of the Public Works Committee required that the building should be taken back to the new building line laid down by them, which would entail the pulling down of the existing buildings to a depth of 70 feet from the present frontage. The Committee were informed that the Chairman and the General Manager had discussed this requirement with the Chairman of the Public Works Committee and the City Surveyor today, and it had been agreed that an inspection should be made of the property with a view to ascertaining if an alternative proposal could be made by the Public Works Committee.
General Purposes Sub-Committee: July 13th 1925

The City Surveyor informed the Sub-Committee however, that as a result of the conference between representatives of the Bank and Alderman Talbot and himself, he was able to submit alternative proposals under which, although the scheme of the Bank would be modified, the Public Works Department would waive for the present their requirements as to setting back.
