The Manager reported that in view of the alterations being carried out at Aston, Duddeston, Rotton Park and Ladywood Branches, as a precautionary measure, cash in excess of £50 was brought in to Head Office, pending suitable instructions being given by the Sub-Committee.
The Manager reported that in the ordinary way each daily Branch (except Saltley) was covered in respect of loss or theft up to £2,000 by the Guarantee Society and he considered that £1,000 in each case would be sufficient to cover the Branches named during the progress of the alterations.
87 RESOLVED:- That the Manager be authorised to approach the Guarantee Society with a view to Aston, Duddeston, Rotton Park and Ladywood Branches being covered for an amount of £1,000 in each case during the period of the alterations.
With reference to Saltley Branch, the Manager reported that this Branch was only covered for £300. This caused hardship on the officers and incurred considerable risk in the transit of cash. The Manager suggested that the Guarantee Society should be approached with a view to this Branch being covered for £1,000.

Bank Committee: October 18th 1926
2473 The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:
Duddeston Branch
Your Sub-Committee have considered tenders for the proposed extension of the Duddeston Branch, possession of one of the dwellinghouses having been obtained. The lowest tender received was £1,762. 0. 0. which amount was a little higher than your Sub-Committee anticipated. They have accordingly directed the General Manager to consult with the City Surveyor with a view to modifying the specification and reducing the cost of the work, and to present a report on the matter to your Committee at their meeting to-day.
With reference to the paragraph in the foregoing report as to the acceptance of a tender for the proposed extension of the Duddeston Branch, the General Manager presented the following report:
Alterations to Duddeston Branch.
The lowest tender received for these alterations was from Mr E A Turner, of Maypole Lane, Hollywood, in the sum of £1,762; the next lowest being that of Messrs A Pearce & Son of Small Heath, £1,800.
The General Manager consulted the City Surveyor with regard to these two tenders, and after making enquiries and giving full consideration to the character of the work which has to be carried out in this alteration scheme, the City Surveyor recommends that the tender of Messrs A Pearce & Son be accepted.
With regard to the amount of the tender, Messrs Pearce & Son have, at the City Surveyor's request, sent in their priced Quantities. This has given an opportunity for considering whether any of the work proposed to be undertaken could, with advantage, be deleted from the specifications. After looking at the plan and considering the detailed prices, the City Surveyor cannot see that any advantage will be gained by departing from the plan approved. It should be pointed out, however, that in the tender prime cost items were inserted amounting to £265, in respect of alterations to the Bank counters and fittings, and the re-arrangement of electric light and gas heating system, which items are usually dealt with separately by the Bank Committee. The deletion of these items from the tender would mean that so far as the Contractors were concerned, the price would be £1,535, which amount the City Surveyor considers to be quite reasonable, and coincides with his estimate of £1,500 for the work.
The Committee are, therefore, recommended to accept the tender of Messrs Pearce & Son on the understanding that the fittings, electric light, and gas heating are dealt with by the Bank Committee in the usual way.
2476 RESOLVED:- That the tender of Messrs A Pearce & Son for the carrying out of alterations to the Duddeston Branch at the sum of £1,800 subject to any necessary adjustment in respect of prime cost items be accepted; and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare the necessary contract, and to affix the Corporate Seal thereto.
